The Return of Live.com’s Link Commands

Posted:

After about eight months of downtime, Microsoft has decided to open up its link command features back to the public. These features became offline back in March 2007 due to massive amounts of automated queries, that undoubtedly put an unnecessary drain on Microsoft’s servers.

Link commands essentially allow webmasters to see how many backlinks there are to their site(s) in a particular search engine - in this case, Live Search/MSN.

The operator syntax has also changed slightly in the interim. Linkdomain commands are simply +linkdomain:www.domain.com, while link commands are now +link:www.domain.com/filename.
