Search Engine Marketing in 2009
Posted: December 29th, 2008
With the new year fast approaching and as you begin drafting your new year resolutions, be sure to set some goals for staying ahead in your search engine marketing efforts. The Internet is always springing up new opportunities for reaching your audience, and here are a couple of ways to lead the pack in 2009.
Although the North American market of mobile web browsing trails behind European and Asian cellular markets, it is a growing trend nonetheless. One of the main reasons for the lag is the lack of commitment to the infrastructure required to support mobile browsing, however, I remain bullish for 2009 as 3G and 4G networks continue to develop and prosper.
President-elect Barack Obama has also stated that he favours an open network-neutral Internet as he began campaigning in 2006. More importantly though, he has reaffirmed his commitment and stance on net neutrality once being elected. An administration that holds this position is positive toward the development of a mobile Internet. His intentions of investing to technological infrastructure (for health care or otherwise) also provides a positive outlook.
Also along the lines of an “open” Internet is the increased interactivity between Internet users. The lines between a content consumer and a content provider will begin to blur, as web 2.0 facilitates more content production (even from those who really shouldn’t provide content). Social media will continue to develop alongside web 2.0, and “kewl” (cuil?) content will be seen by the masses.
Unfortunately, these fads are predicted to only supply a short-term burst of traffic that may or may not even be relevant. To hold onto this traffic throughout 2009 and beyond, focus should be placed on delivering an appropriate user experience (UX). Marketing to the user experience is a good long-term strategy for gaining a competitive advantage, and doing what’s truly important - the bottom line.

The post is very important and has good knowledge. Our company has been extremely focused on SEO at the end of 2008 and into 2009. We are doing Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Blogger, etc…as well as having 3 different blogs for our different departments. In the earlier years, we were getting phone calls all of the time from our website, but once we redesigned, we lost our placement on Google and our SEO results were 0! With the refocus, we are staying innovative and starting to drive in more traffic and phone calls. This SEO is a must for all who are not participating yet. Have a good 2009.
I never realized how important SEO placement was until recently when I submitted my site to many SEOs and started getting very good results. It is nice seeing ones blogs on the first pages of Google. I thank you for this post and reassuring me that I have done the right thing in 2008 and continuing to do so in 2009.
