Management of Your Online Reputation

Posted:

The first steps have been taken and your company has an online presence in the blink of an eye. But the honeymoon phase can come to an abrupt end just as quickly if you don’t monitor and manage its reputation on the Internet. There are a handful of things that should be keeping track of, including your brands, product lines, and even top-level management’s reputation.

It would also be wise to keep tabs on the competition. Are there many complaints about your competitors’ customer service recently on blogs and forums? Now might be a good time to “kick them while they’re down” and promote your new customer service center. The effect of this becomes exponential if your competitors don’t manage their own online reputation.

A few places to monitor are search engines, the blogosphere, relevant forums, social media sites, and customer review sites such as Epinions.com.

Last but not least, try to be proactive rather than reactive. Make a company page on MySpace, Facebook, and monitor and edit any Wikipedia / AboutUs pages. Also send some free product trials to those influential bloggers. :)
