Internet Usage Growing Rapidly Among Women

Posted:

In comScore’s recent 2007 U.S. Internet Year in Review, the second-fastest growing Internet audience was women, trailing the number one category of politics. Attributing and omitting the political growth to the presidential election, the women’s community effectively becomes the most rapidly growing Internet user-base. Their 35% increase in growth is comparable to the “retail consumer goods” and “teens” categories, with a 25% and 20% change, respectively.

This recent jump in online women now means that they outnumber online men in the U.S., and it’s a good time to delve into this data and fine-tune our marketing efforts.

Optimize Through Dayparting

According to a Burst Media study released in June 2007, the Internet has become an integral part of women’s daily routines. The study also concludes that women over 65 use the Internet in the early morning (before 7 a.m.), while Internet usage between 4p.m. and 7 p.m. was mainly for family purposes.

Reaching the Frugal Women

As concluded by comScore, the most frequented free web services by women in descending order are: email; local business directories (yellow pages); online coupons; incentive/reward programs; news/information sites and; instant messaging.

  1. It’s good to hear more and more women are getting online. We do seem to catch up with a lot of things and some of us have started taking the internet in a more serious way already. For me the net was a way to learn many things and why not, have the chance of a decent living.

  2. The Internet definitely opens up many opportunities for just about anything, and it’s great to see more women like yourself embracing it.

  3. The only reason more and more women are getting online is because most if not all of them are in-fact single. They’re using the Internet to access dating websites mainly which is true.

single women see the Internet as a great tool to find a boyfriend / husband. It’s definitely a growing trend.
