Blogroll Algorithm and PageRank Update

Blogroll Algorithm Update
The blogroll algorithm that is in charge of detecting and indexing blogroll information for Google Blog Search has at last arrived about a week ago. This update primarily deals with how links to blogs are counted if they come from a blogroll.
Googler Jeremy Hylton explains,
We have launched a ranking change that reduces the number of results that are returned because of blogroll matches. There are still problems to work out, but this change appears to be a big improvement over our earlier fix.
For example, if RandomBlogOne is linking to SearchEnginePanel through its blogroll, Google Blog Search won’t return each new post made by RandomBlogOne as a match about SEP. The new algorithm will essentially segregate blogroll content from post content.
April 2009 PageRank Update
An update to Toolbar PageRanks were released within the first few days of April (on the first). I wasn’t all that sure whether it was just another April Fools prank or not, but it seems to be real. Search Engine Panel’s homepage is still sitting at PR4.

You’re lucky - after a steady climb over a 8 month period from a 1 to a 2 then 3 and 4 my page rank went down to 0 - I have heard of this happening to others but I never thought it would happen to my site because I always try and do things above board. Still trying to figure out what happened.
Thank goodness no one depends upon my blogroll for PR since it’s rather sparse on all my blogs. It truly was only a matter of time before G discounted this sort of linking. Next up are link exchange sites.
I’ve worked really hard to get PR back after the big smackdown two years ago. I am finally back to 2 and probably won’t get any higher than that since it’s not a niche blog.
